Is Chelsea new signing Estevao Willian 'the new Neymar'?
Estevao Willian recently broke Neymar’s record in Brazil’s Serie A.
Estevao Willian is already making his status in Brazil and the forward’s performance has seen the world recognize his talent. However, Chelsea were quick to bank on the player acquisition before any club could sign him.
The Blues have bought a player who is seen as the ‘next Neymar’, and the quality he boasts could certainly make him one of the best Brazilian forwards.
Estevao Willian will complete his £56 million ($73m) to Chelsea next summer following a record-breaking year at Palmeiras. This investment made by the Blues is certainly looking to be worthy given how the 17-year-old is making waves in Brazil currently.
Estevao has dazzled many people with his quick feet, vision and eye for goal and he will continue to do so. However, in Brazil, he isn’t getting as much limelight but coming to the Premier League would certainly open fans’ eyes when he performs there.
Is Estevao the next Neymar?
With all that trickery and ability to beat as many defenders, Willian has been seen as the next Neymar, as the former Paris Saint-Germain forward boasts a similar playing style.
Recently Willian also broke Neymar’s record becoming the most productive U-17 player in Brazil’s Serie A since the turn of the century, which was previously held by the former Barcelona player.
The Palmeiras sensation recorded 18 goal contributions in their 5-3 win against Juventude. Meanwhile, Neymar recorded 16 goals and assists combined during his time at Santos. Neymar was also the first to congratulate Willian. Writing on Instagram Neymar said: “Congratulations [Estevao] for the broken record. May you continue to shine and enchant everyone with your football. Fly.”
At a very young age, the 17-year-old is already making a statement at the Brazilian club, and if he keeps up his steady play, he will undoubtedly be viewed as the next Neymar.
Neymar was comparable to him while he was at Santos, and as his reputation grew, he joined Barcelona, where he further solidified his position as one of the top Brazilian players in Europe. There he got more attention and recognition for his efforts.
However, his decision to join Paris Saint-Germain didn’t go well as his career fell apart and recurring injuries further impeded his career in the sport. Neymar is now playing for Saudi club Al-Hilal, and the forward recently returned from a season-ending injury. Although now he is out again for a hamstring injury.
This is something Willian will have to learn and make better decisions about his future because one poor move could see his playing career fall apart quickly. We saw a lot of potential in Neymar but he never was able to fulfil it because of his one bad decision.
Similar to that Willian also has a big potential and when he joins Chelsea, the world will finally see the massive talent he is.
