The 25-year-old could lose his national team captaincy.

Will 25-year-old Kylian Mbappé continue to captain France in 2025? After the Real Madrid striker missed both of the previous international break calls with Les Bleus, it is still unclear. L’Equipe is aware that the former PSG forward’s wish to keep wearing the captain’s armband will be discussed with Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps.

According to reports, the manager, who was formerly captain of France, wants to know if Mbappé feels that being captain has become too much for him and if donning the captain’s armband interferes with his time with his teammates.

Deschamps is aware of reports that Mbappé contemplated leaving his role as France captain, the outlet continues. Deschamps is unlikely to remove Mbappé from his captaincy responsibilities if he expresses a desire to continue leading France.

In the event that Mbappé affirms his desire to renounce his status, Deschamps will select a different captain. Therefore, Aurélien Tchouaméni (24), N’Golo Kanté (33), or Ibrahima Konaté (25), who all started as France’s captain over those two months (October and November international break), are anticipated to be Mbappé’s replacement.

L’Equipe is aware that during the November international break, the dynamics in the dressing room changed, and the Liverpool centre-back’s leadership abilities have won over members of France’s backroom staff.

On Monday, Konaté led his nation to a 3-1 victory over Italy on the road. The outlet is aware that, should Konaté establish himself as a clear starter for Les Bleus, he would be a perfect match to lead France.

For Tchouaméni, the same may be stated. The 24-year-old’s energetic display on Monday is sure to give Deschamps much to think about, as the Bordeaux academy graduate is far from playing at his dominant best at Real Madrid.

Although Kanté is still well-liked by his teammates and the French staff, his advanced age and reserved demeanour may eventually disqualify him from consideration to be the captain.
