The Red Devils board are in talks with the Portuguese to become their next manager.

During his brief management career in his own country, the 39-year-old Portuguese Ruben Amorim has been on the shortlist for many big clubs; nevertheless, Old Trafford may now be the site of his next challenge.

Recently, it was revealed that Manchester United are considering replacing Erik ten Hag with Amorim.

Following Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool last season, he was strongly connected to the Reds, held discussions with West Ham about taking over as manager, and was even floated as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola of Manchester City.

However, is Amorim now prepared for the Premier League challenge after guiding Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in 2021 at the young age of 36 and earning their second with the team last season?

Is Ruben Amorim the ideal head coach for Manchester United?

Despite being good friends with the former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and having learned his craft under him, their footballing philosophies couldn’t be more unlike.

Many Premier League players will recognize Amorim’s coaching style because his 2020–21 winning team included Manuel Ugarte of United, Matheus Nunes of Manchester City, Pedro Porro of Tottenham, and Joao Palhinha now of Bayern Munich.

However, is Amorim now ready for the Premier League challenge after guiding Sporting to their first league title in 19 years in 2021 at the young age of 36 and earning their second with the team last season?

There is a huge difference between winning in Portugal and doing the exact same thing at Manchester United.

With just three victories from their first nine games, Ten Hag drops the team to 14th place in the Premier League. Given that famous names before him have failed, why would Amorim be the one to bring back the team’s past glory?

But if he decides to transfer to Old Trafford, why now?

This might be the right time for Amorim to show his managerial credentials to the world, but at United, it is going to be challenging given how their squad is still disjointed and can’t play free-flowing football.

They have struggled in every position and it was time for the club’s board to finally make the final decision and sack Erik ten Hag, otherwise, things might have gotten worse.

But if Amorim takes control at Old Trafford he will first have to implement the base where the players slowly understand his philosophy and the board will have to back him up given his style of play will take time to eke out results.

He can turn the fortunes around of the club if given time as he is one of the most astute managers in Europe right now and just young age he has already shown his managerial acumen.

Guillem Balague, said: “The feeling is that Portugal has become too small for him and he is more than prepared to move on to bigger things.

“Now there is a new-found maturity and he is keen to find out if his very close way of dealing with players, with tactics, with fans and the media, works somewhere out of his comfort zone.”
