The Japan national football team have already unveiled their final 26-man roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It is going to be interesting to see their performances in the upcoming edition of the mega competition.
This will mark the Samurai Blue’s seventh appearance at the FIFA World Cup. Their best performances were round of 16 finishes in 2002, 2010, 2018 and 2022. This time around, they are placed in Group F, where they will get to face the Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden.
Some top names included are Takefusa Kubo, Hiroki Ito, Yuto Nagatomo, Wataru Endo and others. With top stars in the team, they will surely have a lot of confidence, and this is going to help them move forward. They are one of the top Asian teams heading into the grandest stage of them all.

Who could become Japan’s first player to make five different FIFA World Cup appearances?
The 39-year-old Yuto Nagatomo is now going to make his fifth tournament appearance at the FIFA World Cup. He will also become the only Asian player to appear in five successive World Cups. No other player from Japan has achieved the feat.
He plays for FC Tokyo and is still performing well.
While opting to go for Nagatoma, Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu said, “It was important for me to confirm that he was still able to play at a high intensity out on the field.”
When Japan’s head coach announced the preliminary squad, he praised the 39-year-old defender and further mentioned, “his ability to perform in individual battles is up to World Cup standard.”
The Blue Samurai are going to step on the biggest stage of football with a well-balanced squad. They have left out some top names such as Kaoru Mitoma, Hidemasa Morita, Kodai Sano, Takumi Minamino, Shuto Machino and Joel Chima Fujita. Some will miss out because of the injuries, and others due to their underwhelming form.
