Benzema and Ronaldo are currently playing for Saudi clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, respectively.
Karim Benzema has unfollowed Cristiano Ronaldo on Instagram. In recent days, Benzema and Ronaldo’s friendship has drastically changed after the Frenchman gave his verdict on the GOAT debate.
The two, who were once close teammates at Real Madrid, now appear to be distant friends. However, Ronaldo is still following Benzema on the social media app.
This appears to be a serious issue given how both players formed an excellent partnership at Real Madrid and became undisputed stars of the club.
It happened after the former Real Madrid star made his position known at the same time by picking Ronaldo Nazario over his former colleague Cristiano Ronaldo in the greatest of all time topic.
He said: ”I think everyone can say what they want. If he thinks he is the best in history, then he is. It depends, for me, for example, the best is Ronaldo from Brazil. I don’t like to make comparisons between players, each one has their own story, he [Cristiano] has his own and it’s a very good one.”
Meanwhile, the Portuguese, who has never missed a chance to say he is greatest of all time, once again made the same comments when he recently said, in an interview on La Sexta with his friend Edu Aguirre: “I believe I am the most complete player that ever existed. I respect people who like Messi, Pelé, or Maradona more. But to say that Cristiano isn’t the most complete is a lie. Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone better than me.”
Given their years of success together at Real Madrid, it will appear strange for many Madrid fans. It is difficult to ignore the tension between them today, regardless of whether this is a straightforward misunderstanding or an indication of a more serious problem.
However, the fans will only hope that it’s not a serious issue and that it will be sorted out between the two star players who are currently playing in the Saudi Pro League. Benzema is currently plying his trade for Al-Ittihad, while Ronaldo for Al-Nassr.
