The Brazilian will face competition from Jude Bellingham for the coveted award.

Former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has backed his ex-teammate Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d’Or in October. The Frenchman feels the Brazilian deserves the award after his performance for Real Madrid in the 2023-24 season.

The 24-year-old helped Los Blancos achieve LaLiga and UEFA Champions League titles last campaign. He recorded 24 goals in total last season. Vinicius Junior will face tough competition to win the coveted award with the likes of Rodri and teammate Jude Bellingham also in the fray.

All three have enjoyed an excellent season, with Rodri winning Euro 2024 and Premier League, while both Real Madrid stars had impressive club seasons but endured disappointing international summers, which could be crucial in deciding the Ballon d’Or award winner.

However, one-time Ballon d’Or winner Benzema feels the Brazilian deserves to win the award. Speaking in an interview, he said, “I’m going to say Vini because he deserves it for his season and not just for what he’s done this year, but also for what he’s done last year, he was also above the rest with his football and what he does with the ball. He’s a kid, a complete footballer.

”He can win a game on his own, of course with the help of his teammates, but he is very good when Real Madrid needs him and that is why I think he deserves it. He is always there and he always shows up. For all of that, my favourite is Vini.”

This time the Ballon d’Or is going to be unpredictable with many players having excellent seasons with their respective clubs and nations. Another player, Lautaro Martinez was monumental in helping Argentina win Copa America 2024 and Inter Milan the 2023-24 Serie A title. He finished as the top scorer in both these tournaments.

Vinicius Jr is enjoying the holidays after a lengthy season that ended with the Copa America tournament. The forward recently travelled to Ibiza to celebrate turning 24. In the meantime, Real Madrid are about to start their pre-season tour of the United States where they will play Barcelona, AC Milan and Chelsea.
