Kobbie Mainoo returns to Manchester United training despite injury scare ahead of Porto game
Mainoo limped off in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Following his injury scare against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo practised with the team on Wednesday morning.
Prior to halftime in Sundayâs dismal 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford, Mainoo was substituted, leaving through the tunnel immediately after Bruno Fernandes received a straight red card.
There were serious concerns over the 19-year-oldâs fitness ahead of two important games this week after footage purportedly showed him telling Johnny Evans he had injured his hamstring.
Erik ten Hag needs a quick response from his team in order to keep his job. United travel to Porto for the Europa League on Thursday and then to Aston Villa on Sunday.
After forcing Mainoo off the field over the weekend, the United manager acknowledged that there were âconcernsâ for him. However, seeing the England international back on the field for practice should be a huge relief for the manager, who is under fire.
This season, Mainoo has been virtually constant in the United squad after his breakthrough campaign last season. He started in all six league games before leaving early against Spurs.
That afternoon, Mason Mount was called on to replace Mainoo, but he was forced to leave the game early on when he sliced his hand badly in a head-on collision with Radu Dragusin.
Though he was not seen throughout Wednesdayâs training session, the former Chelsea midfielderâwho will be regarded as doubtful for the trip to Portoâreceived stitches following the match.
Harry Maguire, on the other hand, resumed training following his injury-related absence from the Tottenham match. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, both left-backs, are expected to stay out for a longer period of time.
