Kylian Mbappe posts controversial offside photo of him on Instagram story

The Frenchman was denied two goals due to offside in the match.

In Real Madrid’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over Mallorca, Kylian Mbappe was denied two goals as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled that the Frenchman was offside in both cases. The controversial confirmation photo that shows Mbappe’s shoulder and sleeve just barely offside, for which his first goal was called off, was posted by the captain of France on his Instagram story.

The Real Madrid star began his home campaign with three goals in the first two games, continuing his form from the previous season. The Frenchman appeared to have scored his fourth league goal of the season in the eighth minute of Los Blancos’ third LaLiga match, but VAR disallowed his attempt. It was deemed offside by the narrowest of margins.

However, Mbappe disagreed with the offside decision as he felt he was onside. He made his feelings clear after posting the ‘offside’ photo on his Instagram story.

Mbappe may have implied that he was unfairly treated by the contentious automated offside call when he shared the image that VAR displayed as confirmation after the game.

Second time in the first half, when Mbappe once again found the net, VAR once again disallowed his attempt. When Mbappe was determined to be at least a foot offside, the referee’s decision appeared to be a lot simpler this time.

With goals from Vinicius Junior and Arda Guler, Real Madrid defeated Mallorca. Nevertheless, Mbappe went blank for the first time this league season. Following the international break, Los Blancos will play Real Sociedad at Anoeta Stadium in anticipation of their first significant test of the season.
