Mbappe’s stats compared to former Los Blancos players in their first 16 matches.
To put it mildly, Kylian Mbappe’s time at Real Madrid has been quite tumultuous. This summer, the French forward joined the defending UEFA Champions League winners from Paris Saint-Germain, completing the most talked-about deal in football.
Expectations around the 25-year-old were always going to be extremely high due to Mbappe’s reputation in the game and the enormous sums of money involved in the acquisition.
A player of his calibre must, regrettably, take the rough with the smooth, and Mbappe has done just that. Reports of his legal battle with PSG over unpaid wages and bonuses, as well as his turbulent tenure as captain of France’s national team, have caused Emmanuel Petit to say that supporters “don’t like him anymore.”
Kylian Mbappe vs Ronaldo Nazario
Kylian Mbappe has played in 16 games so far, scoring eight goals and dishing out two assists. Regretfully, those figures don’t fully convey the situation.
Three of the eight goals were scored from the penalty spot, while only five of them occurred from open play. When we contrasted his stats with those of Brazilian Ronaldo, who scored two goals in his first appearance as a substitute against Alaves, he did so just 61 seconds after entering the game.
With seven goals and four assists in his first 16 games for the team, Ronaldo more than fulfilled his role. After the same number of games, he only contributed one more goal than Mbappe.
Mbappe vs Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema had a decent start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu, even though the French striker went on to develop into a real Madrid icon.
Benzema’s first season with the team was far from prolific, and he had to share the stage with another big-name addition. He contributed five goals and four assists in his first 16 games, which is a decent yet unimpressive result.
Mbappe vs Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo became the main attraction of the Spanish powerhouses as soon as he joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009.
The Portuguese superstar, who initially wore the number nine jersey before Karim Benzema, enjoyed the stage at the Santiago Bernabeu, as seen by his goal total. Ronaldo scored 15 goals and dishevelled two assists in his first 16 Real Madrid games.
In his first season with Real Madrid, he scored 33 goals in 35 games. It includes six of those 15 goals (scored in the first 16 games) in the Champions League.
| Players | Mbappe | Cristiano | Ronaldo Nazario | Benzema |
| Goals | 8 | 15 | 7 | 5 |
| Assists | 2 | 2 | 4 | 4 |
