The Frenchman recently won his first European Golden Boot with Real Madrid.

After denying rumours that he is trying to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s record and history at Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé has expressed his happiness at earning his first European Golden Boot as a Real Madrid player.

On a scale that also gauges the difficulty of the league in which those goals were achieved, Mbappé was awarded the European Golden Boot this week for scoring 31 goals in 34 games during his debut season in LaLiga, making him the top goalscorer in Europe for the 2024–25 campaign.

Kylian Mbappe reveals if he wants to follow Ronaldo’s path at Madrid

It was Mbappé’s first such distinction in his career, and the Frenchman wants to fill his cabinet with as many of these awards as he can. But his goal isn’t to catch up to Cristiano Ronaldo, who claimed three of his four European Golden Boots with Real Madrid.

“Everyone knows that Cristiano is the benchmark in Madrid, number one,” Mbappé told MARCA when asked if he plans to exceed Ronaldo’s statistics.

“I’ve been here for a year and a half, and he was here for nine years. I can’t compare myself to what he did; my path is different.

“I want to forge my own path, but being mentioned alongside Cristiano is already an honor. But I’m only focused on forging my own path, helping the team, and winning every title possible.

“I hope to win another Golden Boot in the future, but above all, I hope we win the league. If we’re talking about why I won the Golden Boot thanks to my goals in the league, my goal this year is to continue in the same vein with the team. If we win the league and I win another Golden Boot, I’ll be even happier than I am now.”

Under new manager Xabi Alonso, Kylian Mbappé began the 2025-26 season with 13 goals in just 11 LaLiga games, putting him on course to win the Golden Boot for the second time in a row.

Menwhile, according to reports, a few prominent players in the Madrid team, most notably Vinicius Junior, have been irritated by Alonso’s managerial style. However, Kylian Mbappé maintained that Madrid are progressing well under their new manager.
