Lamine Yamal received plenty of gifts during his 18th birthday party. However, one of the major presents among them was his new FC Barcelona contract.

The club’s prodigy signed a new deal when he turned 18. The Catalan team made sure to let the world know that they want to keep hold of one of their greatest assets at the club until 2031. After signing the new deal, the Spain international also became the highest earner at the club.

According to reporter Santi Ovalle, the Blaugrana have handed Yamal a lucrative deal that has seen him surpass every other player in the squad as the highest earner at the club.

Yamal, at the age of 18th, has already stunned the football world with his talent on the pitch. Barcelona have been quick to tie down the player until 2031, ensuring his future lies here. He will be the heart of the club’s project.

Moreover, they have also shut the door on interest from other clubs, making it clear that he is not for sale and will continue his quick ascent at Barca. This is after reports emerged that the club feared other European clubs were circling over Yamal’s situation at Barcelona.

On the other hand, it has also been questioned how Barcelona’s current financial issues allowed the club to hand Yamal such a lucrative contract. Meanwhile, the club have dismissed such concern as they believe that the player’s status and his commercial appeal will generate a significant revenue through endorsement and merchandise deals.

What’s next?

It was expected that Barca would do everything in their power to tie down Yamal to a long-term deal. They never had a second thought about allowing to lose their most talented academy player, after Lionel Messi, to other European clubs.

The 18-year-old has now returned to training and will be looking to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet next season as Barcelona prepare for the pre-season matches.
