Top five leagues whose players registered most goals at Euro 2024
Premier League and LaLiga players are tied at 16 goals.
After an exciting Euro 2024 final encounter against England, Luis de la Fuente’s Spain won 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Mikel Oyarzabal. After a 12-year hiatus, La Roja returned to the pinnacle of European football at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, making history as the first nation to win every game at a single Euro competition.
Additionally, these Euros created more history—this time in relation to the Golden Boot award, which is presented to the top goalscorer at the competition. Neither Harry Kane nor Dani Olmo scored in the final, meaning that for the first time six individuals split the prize. The other winners include – Cody Gakpo, Georges Mikautadze, Jamal Musiala and Ivan Schranz.
We saw players from various leagues participate in the month-long competition in Germany. But, do you know which league’s players were the most efficient in front of goal? In the below article, we assess which league’s players scored the most goals at the competition.
Euro 2024’s top five leagues whose players scored the most goals:
5. Ligue 1 – 9 Goals
In this top five, we see Ligue 1 players produced the least goals at Euro 2024. France had many top Ligue 1 players competing, but they were barely on the scoresheet, as Ligue 1 saw only nine goals scored at the event by it’s players. PSG star Fabian Ruiz was the only standout Ligue 1 player. He scored two goals and ended as a champion with the Spain team.
4. Serie A – 15 Goals
Serie A players produced 15 goals across the competition. Defending champions Italy, who had the most stars from the Italian top-flight were eliminated from the tournament at the Round of 16. But, many Serie A players who played for different nations had an impactful tournament. Switzerland’s Dan Ndoye was one of the best Serie A players, who took the Swiss to the last eight of the competition. Stefan de Vrij was another player who scored in the quarter-finals against Turkey.
3. LaLiga – 16 Goals
LaLiga players will be on cloud nine after plenty of them were in the squad of Euro 2024 champions Spain. But unfortunately, LaLiga didn’t produce the most goals. It’s standout players were youngsters Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal. Alvaro Morata was another quality LaLiga player in Germany, but he had a rather dull time in front of goal, scoring only once.
2. Premier League – 16 Goals
The Premier League is tied with LaLiga with 16 goals scored by their players at Euro 2024. Despite England boasting an excellent squad, including the most English top-flight players, they scored only eight goals at the competition. However, three Premier League stars were in Spain’s squad who won the competition. David Raya, Rodri and Marc Cucurella lifted the title in Berlin.
1. Bundesliga – 27 Goals
Bundesliga players produced the most goals. Most importantly out of the six UEFA Euro 2024 Golden Boot award winners, three represent clubs in the German league – Dani Olmo, Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala. All these three players scored three goals each at the competition. However, the only player from the German league to win Euro 2024 was Olmo.
