Lionel Messi, the star of Argentina, requested to be replaced during Major League Soccer match for Inter Miami vs Philadelphia Union after experiencing an injury scare before the World Cup.
Later, Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos stated that the 38-year-old forward’s substitution against the Philadelphia Union was a precaution due to the wet surface at Miami.
Inter Miami head coach issues update on Lionel Messi injury

The 2022 World Cup winner appeared to be walking normally as he moved right down the tunnel after being substituted in the 73rd minute of the match, after grabbing the back of his left leg.
“As far as I know, we don’t have a [medical] report on that yet, but he really was fatigued,” Hoyos said after the game when asked about Messi’s condition.
“He was tired; the pitch was heavy and when in doubt, the standard approach is always to ensure you don’t take any risks.”
Lionel Messi is anticipated to return for what will be a record-equalling sixth participation at the championships, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico co-host.
Messi has not officially stated that he intends to play for the reigning champions in the World Cup, which starts on June 11. Argentina’s opening match against Algeria is scheduled for June 16. The team will be announced next week.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has carefully controlled his workload since relocating to Miami in 2023, but he has still missed time due to hamstring problems.
Now it remains to be seen once the forward undergoes an injury scan that will ascertain if he has picked up any serious injury or not.
