Lionel Messi to Barcelona branded 'impossible' amid recent return links with LaLiga club

The Argentine is expected to extend his deal with Inter Miami.
More rumours have surfaced about Lionel Messi possibly returning to Barcelona. But such a deal has once again been labelled as “impossible.”
The Argentine sensation “can’t leave football without playing at the new Camp Nou,” according to journalist Alex Candal, who was the first to report on Messi’s shocking move to the United States after the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner decided to join Inter Miami.
As a result, there is already new speculation that Messi may return to Catalunya in late 2025. His contract in Florida is coming to an end after the end of the year. But he does have the option to extend it for another 12 months. It would allow him to play regular football and stay in shape ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup the following summer.
However, his return to Barcelona is far-fetched as all those speculations have been debunked by another prominent reporter.
According to reputable journalist Guillem Balague, Messi is unlikely to return to Barcelona anytime soon because it is anticipated in America that he will activate the 2026 clause and play until the end of 2026. In reaction to the most recent Messi rumours, Balague stated:
“Couple of things on this story.
“Messi contract ends up at the end of the season. Messi has got no intention to return to Barcelona. I would say it is impossible while Laporta is in charge. Quite likely, Inter Miami will convince him to remain at the club.”
Many fans certainly dream of Messi returning to the club but currently, it doesn’t look realistic. The forward might end his career either in the USA or even more likelier at his childhood club Newell’s Old Boys.
When Messi broke up relations with the LaLiga powerhouses in 2021, Joan Laporta was president of Barcelona. A new deal had been promised, but it never materialized due to the club’s financial woes, and the South American ended up becoming a free agent and joining Paris Saint-Germain. A second stint at the Blaugrana is also being rumoured for Neymar, Messi’s former teammate from Barca and PSG.
