Georgia recently became the 36th nation to participate in the tournament’s history

With the current edition of the European Championship already underway in Germany, the 2024 UEFA Euro has already served fans worldwide with enthralling and action-packed daily football coverage between the top European teams for the coveted trophy. The first-ever iteration of this event was held in 1960 and was originally called the European Nations’ Cup.

The European Championships are a major global draw that take place once every four years (European Championship 2020 was an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic). It’s the second-most prestigious football tournament in the world, after the FIFA World Cup. For instance, the Euro 2016 final between Portugal and France attracted a global audience of around 600 million people.

In order to qualify for this competition, European national teams need to compete in qualifying rounds against other top teams to reach the final tournament, which currently involves 24 teams in a group stage format ranging from Group A to Group F, followed by the knockout rounds.

As far as this edition of the European Championship is concerned, Georgia are the 36th different nation to participate in this event, further highlighting the competitiveness this competition has possessed throughout its various editions.

In terms of records, both Spain and Germany hold three European Championship titles each, with the latter also holding the record for the most appearances in the competition with 14. With Germany playing hosts for Euro 2024, they would be hoping to leapfrog Spain by clinching their fourth crown in front of their own fans and cementing their stake at the top of the mountain.

The UEFA European Championship 2024 kick started on June 15, with hosts Germany winning the tournament opener against Scotland in a 5-1 thumping. The final will take place on July 15 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
