The award was first handed out in 2009

Every year, FIFA presents the Puskás Award, a football prize given to the player who is deemed to have scored the year’s most aesthetically noteworthy or “most beautiful” goal. Named after the renowned Hungarian and Real Madrid striker Ferenc Puskás of the 1950s and 1960s, it was first given out in 2009.

In addition to winning ten league titles and three European Cups with Madrid, this deadly forward added 84 goals in 85 games for his country and led them to the 1954 World Cup final. With 806 goals in 793 official games during his career, he was named the greatest top-division scorer of the 20th century by the IFFHS.

This award is based on a number of primary criteria. It is mostly offered irrespective of gender, religion, nationality, or race. Additionally, the goal shouldn’t be the result of chance, such as a defender deflecting the ball. It must, of course, be caught on film as well.

Prior to a contentious award in 2018, the honour was determined entirely by fan votes; however, the voting process was modified. Since 2019, FIFA has also taken into account the votes of a panel of legends.

Football fans are frequently more excited by individual genius than by anything else. The fans get excited and inspired when they witness a single player stand out from the crowd and take centre stage, whether it’s a long-range screamer that suddenly buries the ball into the top corner of the goal or a brilliant move that enables a deft winger to beat their opponents and score a solo goal.
