The Portuguese is yet to lift the FIFA World Cup.
Unquestionably, one of the best players in the history of professional football is Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese player who is now close to 40 and plays for Al-Nassr. He joined Manchester United in 2003 after a year with Sporting. Over the years, he progressed from an opportunity to good, to great, to astonishingly brilliant.
After signing for Real Madrid for a then-record transfer fee in 2009, Ronaldo would spend his prime in the Spanish capital, where he would collect multiple accolades. Being one of just two players to have received at least five Ballon d’Or honours, he now seems to be aiming for 1,000 career goals.
Despite not winning every trophy, Ronaldo would like to at least get his hands on one of the most famous football trophies, the World Cup. The Portuguese has lifted every major international trophy in his national team career besides the World Cup, which he hopes to win. But it will be interesting to see if he will participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Since making his debut for the Portuguese national team in 2003, Cristiano Ronaldo has participated in five World Cup competitions. After being in the team for more than 20 years, Ronaldo is the team’s top scorer and appearance-maker by a significant margin.
Ronaldo has participated in five different tournaments, but he has never been able to lead Portugal to a World Cup. This felt especially sour after his lifelong rival Lionel Messi won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
A player of Ronaldo’s calibre has won an incredible amount of trophies during his tenure in Europe, whether with Manchester United, Real Madrid, or Juventus. Identifying a competition that Ronaldo hasn’t won is perhaps more difficult than naming one that he has. Which awards has Cristiano Ronaldo never taken home during his career? We give you the answer.
