The Reds’ owners previously failed to purchase Spanish club Malaga.

The Spanish team Getafe is being pursued by Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who want to establish a multi-club football model.

Spanish publication Marca claims that the Spanish club are being pursued by the Reds’ American owners, FSG. Like the owners of Chelsea, FSG are interested in creating a multi-club model.

Fenway Sports Group considers the club to be a fair investment because it is a well-established top-flight squad that can produce and sell talented players. This will also allow the owners to spawn young, talented Spanish players from the academy and sign them for the Reds.

Michael Edwards, director of football operations for Liverpool, discussed Liverpool’s goal when he stated:

“We are committed to acquiring and overseeing an additional club, growing this area of the organization. Remaining competitive requires investment and expansion in our current football portfolio. An obstacle to their ambition would be the willingness of Getafe’s president who wanted to remain in charge for two more years before selling the club.”

The English club owners are seriously looking to buy the Spanish side

However, the English club won’t be the only club that will invest in a multi-club football model; another Premier League team, Chelsea, have already put their shares in Ligue 1 club Strasbourg after acquiring their stakes.

Construction of the Spanish club’s new stadium has started, and it should be completed by December 2027. According to President Angel Torres, he won’t go before then. He stated:

“I’ve given my word to my family. The day the construction is finished and the stadium is inaugurated, I’ll leave. I’ll try to find a replacement first so I can leave it in good hands. I’m not going to leave it to just anyone; it’s going to be difficult.”

Given its socioeconomic and steady standing in LaLiga, Getafe are an intriguing club for any prospective investor. Liverpool’s owners will be hoping that their possible acquisition of the LaLiga club won’t encounter any obstacles following their unsuccessful effort to purchase Malaga.
