Liverpool hand Pep Guardiola's Manchester City 2-0 defeat to go 9 points clear at top of Premier League table

The Reds are now eleven points above defending champions City.

Liverpool go 11 points clear of Manchester City as they cruise past with a 2-0 victory against Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo got the job done for the Reds as they celebrated a massive victory against one of the top sides of the league.

Arne Slot’s impressive run continues as Liverpool’s new manager, who has instantly laid a marker since his arrival. Liverpool are currently top of the league while Arsenal are second, nine points behind the Reds.

City’s chances of challenging for the title are fading away as they are now without a win in their last seven matches across all competitions. The pressure on Pep Guardiola has further intensified.

Since taking over from the legendary Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot has had an incredible time. On Wednesday night, he watched his team easily defeat Real Madrid. It might be the most significant declaration of intent.

Their win over City has indicated that the Reds are here to dominate under a new manager.

With City in disarray at the back and providing little offensively, Pep Guardiola‘s record of going six games without a win has now been extended to seven matches.

In the first half, the hosts’ performance was lopsided. An underwhelming Ciy team, who don’t seem to have moved over their recent slump, were dominated by Liverpool. In response to Salah’s pinpoint cross from the right flank, Cody Gakpo moved his side forward.

Due to a strong defensive performance by captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Guardiola’s team were unable to reply. After 78 minutes on the clock, the Citizens’ hopes of regaining the game were dashed as Mohamed Salah scored a flawless penalty kick.

No significant indication of a City resurgence was present. Guardiola lifted those six fingers with a sly smile as Scousers pounded his eardrums with chants of ”You are getting sacked in the morning.”
