The Egyptian feels he is more out than in at Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher, a former Reds defender, claims that Mohamed Salah is “selfish” for openly expressing his dissatisfaction with Liverpool’s refusal to extend his contract.

After Sunday’s victory over Southampton, Salah, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, told the media that he is “probably more out than in” and has not yet received an offer of new terms.

With 12 goals in all competitions this campaign, the 32-year-old is Liverpool’s leading scorer. He struck twice against the Saints to put the team eight points ahead of second-place Manchester City in the Premier League.

“I must say I am very disappointed with Mo Salah,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. “Liverpool have Real Madrid midweek [in the Champions League] and Man City at the weekend. That’s the story right now.”

He added: “If he keeps putting comments out, his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish. That is thinking about themselves and not the football club.”

Arne Slot responds to Salah’s comments

Mohamed Salah is “more in than out” in Liverpool’s eyes, according to manager Arne Slot, even though the Egyptian king has given the club a contract ultimatum.

Salah’s comments were met with tempered optimism by Liverpool head coach Slot, who played down the Egyptian’s declaration while highlighting how important he is to his ambitions.

“Indeed, people tell me about it (Salah’s interview). I’ve said many times that I don’t share anything here,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “The only thing I can say is that when I look at my lineups, Mo is more in than out.”

“We want his numbers to be where they are at the moment. I don’t think he’s distracted at all, I didn’t see it after United game… didn’t see anything today. Just fully focused. I think it’s things the fans and media talk about, which is normal. But if you had been at the AXA (training centre) today, I don’t think any player talked about it.”
