The full-back could become a free agent after the end of the season.

In an attempt to keep the England defender out of Real Madrid‘s hands, Liverpool have offered an enormous five-year contract worth £78 million to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old has a comparable £300,000 per week contract on the table at the Bernabeu. However, if he signs with the Spanish powerhouses as a free agent in the summer, he can also anticipate a sizable signing bonus.

The player is now faced with a choice between joining perhaps the largest club in the world of football as a Galactico or staying with his hometown club, where he may further solidify his status as an icon.

Liverpool believe they have exhausted all other options in an attempt to persuade Alexander-Arnold to stay at Anfield for the final years of his already illustrious Merseyside career.

Alexander-Arnold has not made any requests to be given the captaincy. When the Dutchman’s tenure as a consistent member of the first team ends, the full-back is aware that he is Virgil van Dijk’s logical successor.

Despite TAA being on the road to becoming a free agent in the summer, Real Madrid are reportedly willing to spend £20 million to sign him now.

For Liverpool, who are now playing for a Premier League title, it is not negotiable. The player himself does not want to upset anyone by departing in January.

In the meantime, he has kept his own counsel on the future as he weighs up both inviting options stating recently: “I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”

Given that their existing contracts are expiring in the summer, Liverpool are more certain that Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk will agree to new two-year agreements.

Similar to Alexander-Arnold, they can now engage with international clubs. In Salah’s case, Saudi Arabia clubs are quite interested, but he wants to stay at Liverpool for the correct compensation.
