Liverpool planning to open contract talks with Mohamed Salah: Report

The star forward has only one year left on his Reds deal.
Liverpool’s intentions for their top player, Mohamed Salah, have changed in light of his open remarks on Sky Sports after Liverpool defeated Manchester United 3-0.
Declaring in the open that “nobody has talked to me” about a new contract, Salah hinted that this might be his “last season” at Anfield. The club will now start talking to the Egyptian winger about his contract, which is slated to end in June 2025, reports Football Insider.
Salah’s interview with Sky Sports following the game shocked both the team and its supporters. Salah’s contract is expiring, and no formal talks have been started, but his comments have definitely increased pressure on Liverpool’s management to ensure his future.
The significance of his contribution to Liverpool’s triumph cannot be overstated, making it imperative to take immediate action.
Salah, who is 32 years old, is still an important member of the team after a brilliant start to the 2024–25 Premier League season. With three goals and three assists in as many games, the winger’s outstanding play keeps highlighting his worth.
The club is getting ready to start negotiations in the upcoming weeks. Previously, the emphasis was on integrating new manager Arne Slot and the revamped recruitment team, which included Michael Edwards, the returning sporting director, and Richard Hughes.
Due to his steady excellence, Salah has remained a target for elite clubs across the globe, with Saudi teams still being particularly interested in signing him. In the summer of 2023, Liverpool reportedly turned down a big £150 million bid from Saudi teams. Even still, there is still a lot of curiosity, and Salah’s ambiguous contract position will only encourage more rumours.
Unquestionably, Salah is one of the greatest players in Premier League history. With 160 goals, he is ranked 10th in the league’s highest scorers list, comfortably within striking distance of Jermain Defoe (162) and Liverpool great Robbie Fowler (163).
For Liverpool, retaining their talisman means more than simply scoring goals—it means bringing Salah’s winning mindset to every match.
