The Reds have not made any signings so far this summer.

Liverpool are in search of a midfielder. They have expressed interest in signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Reds want to add a defensive midfielder and are going to move ahead with the deal.

Liverpool last season wanted to bring in a quality defensive midfielder after they sold Jordan Henderson to a Saudi Pro League club. The Reds later signed Wataru Endo,

But Endo found it difficult to adjust to the Premier League. He witnessed Jurgen Klopp start Alexis MacAllister at number six. When the Japanese player eventually warmed up to the league, Liverpool decided not to acquire another midfield player.

But now the Reds want to add a quality midfielder and have identified Zubimendi as the perfect player to fill the No. 6 role at the club. The Spanish player has a €60 million (£51.5 million) release clause. Sociedad won’t negotiate or bring down the fee.

However, if Liverpool are to bring Zubimendi, then they will have to sell Endo. Recently the Reds rejected a £11.8 million deal for the Japanese midfielder from Marseille.

The Reds so far have not made any signings under new head coach Erne Slot. However, they have shown convincing performances during the pre-season as they defeated the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United

They will, however, undoubtedly need to make some additions to the team to help with a few positions. The Reds were among the favourites to win the league the previous season. But they dropped out of the race after losing a number of marquee games. As a result, they lost a good number of points.

By the end of last season, only the Carabao Cup was ultimately won by Liverpool. Klopp also made his departure from the team known. Although it will be a new era for Liverpool as they begin a new season under a new manager, their lack of additions is concerning as other Premier League teams have at least secured a few good players.
