Arne Slot is likely to leave the club before the start of next season.
BILD reports that Liverpool have chosen Xabi Alonso to be their coach for the upcoming campaign. The Merseyside team will be hopeful that Alonso can help them contend for the Premier League championship.
After leaving Real Madrid in January, the 44-year-old is open to a managerial position.
In the meantime, despite Liverpool’s dismal title defence, Arne Slot is battling for his job as head coach. As they watch Arsenal and Manchester City chase the title, the Reds sit in fifth place and are battling for a Champions League spot.
Liverpool’s chance of winning a trophy seems bleak given that they were eliminated from the League Cup by Crystal Palace, drawn against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarterfinals, and will play Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Although the recent 2-1 loss to Brighton did him no favours, Slot will probably need to lead Liverpool into the Champions League qualifying areas to save his position.
Liverpool decide on the next manager appointment
Moreover, the Reds seem to have made their stance clear and are likely to pursue Alonso as their next head coach for the upcoming campaign.
Since Alonso was fired by Real Madrid in January, he has been a free agent. Slot’s future is seriously threatened by the former midfield player’s availability.
Slot is expected to depart “no later than the summer,” according to German publication Bild, while Alonso is “ready for Liverpool” and has already signed an agreement with the team.

Reports state that he will become their next coach before the start of next season.
Which was the last club Alonso managed?
