Ousmane Dembele is the frontrunner to win the award this year.

Even though Ousmane Dembele did not score in Munich, Luis Enrique was especially effusive in his appreciation of Dembele after his club won the Champions League final by the greatest scoreline ever. He even backed the Frenchman to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Even though the player is more part of his now-familiar centre attacking role, the Asturian specifically emphasised the former Rennes player’s defensive contributions during the year. More so than the 33 goals scored by the French international this season across all competitions.

Dembele is currently the clear favourite to win the Ballon d’Or; however, other contenders like Raphinha, Mohamed Salah, and Lamine Yamal are also in the running.

The former Barcelona attacker helped the Parisians win the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and Coupe de France this year by scoring 33 goals across all competitions, 22 of which came this year (2025).

Speaking to reporters, manager Enrique, who became the second person after Pep Guardiola to win the treble with two separate teams, was certain on who should take home the Ballon d’Or.

As PSG travelled to the United States, the former Barcelona manager wasn’t shy of revealing who deserves the Ballon d’Or this year:

“The Ballon d’Or should be Ousmane Dembélé. He deserves it. No doubts at all”.

Later today, when PSG compete in the Club World Cup in America, Dembele will have the opportunity to make his case even stronger.

Considering he can face competition from the FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, Dembele can further solidify his position to win the award if he can lead his side to the Club World Cup in the summer. Moreover, PSG are favourites to win the competition, given their transformation under the ex-Spain head coach.

Enrique has turned PSG into a dominant side and has instilled a winning mentality in his players. He will also look to win his second Club World Cup after winning his maiden as coach with Barcelona in 2016.
