The German centre-back will become a free agent after the end of the season.
Jonathan Tah, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, is reportedly being courted by Premier League club Manchester United on a free transfer at the completion of the current campaign, reports suggest.
The 29-year-old central defender is nearing the end of his Leverkusen contract and is unlikely to sign a new one with the Bundesliga team.
Tah nearly signed a contract with Bayer Munich last summer, but the two teams were unable to agree on a price, therefore, the transaction fell through.
However, Tah appears to be leaving Leverkusen at the end of the current campaign, and according to Sky Sports News, Manchester United are interested in signing the defender.
At the end of the season, Manchester United may lose the experience of Johnny Evans and Victor Lindelof, while having a number of centre defenders on their roster.
Tah has made 399 appearances for Leverkusen since joining from Hamburg in 2015. He was a member of the team that advanced to the Europa League final and won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal the previous season.
Earlier this year, Tah told Kicker that he would be departing Leverkusen at the end of the current campaign.
“I don’t have a timeframe, to be honest,” said Tah. “But the club knows about it. And I’ve been very open with them, as I always have been.
“Everything was said at the start. There was a point when I made the decision not to extend my contract and not to stay here. And that’s how it’s going to go now.”
Barcelona also interested in signing Jonathan Tah
Tah has started 30 of Leverkusen’s 31 Bundesliga games in the current campaign. The centre-back is also linked with a move to Barcelona, who are heavily connected to signing the player on a free transfer.
But now with United also joining the race to sign the German centre-half, it will be very interesting to see who can sign the Leverkusen star.
