The Gunners are without a striker after Gabriel Jesus picked a season-ending injury.
Arsenal have been urged to acquire Karim Benzema, a former Real Madrid great, who says he has seasons left in his career and has no intention to retire.
The Frenchman signed a lucrative contract with Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia after deciding to leave Los Blancos in 2023. Following some of his best seasons, which culminated with him winning several individual awards, he made the move.
In his final two seasons at Real Madrid, Benzema scored 75 goals, including a career-high 44 in the season the Spanish team won the Champions League. Given their ongoing difficulties in the attacking third, Arsenal are predicted to add extra firepower in January.
Benzema is 37 years old, but he has no plans to hang up his boots and hasn’t established a retirement date. The Frenchman is adamant about continuing to play, and trophies remain a powerful drive.
As reported by EPSN, he said this month: “I don’t know whose words they are. Nonsense. I don’t have a limit, to be able to say that in two, three or four years, that I’ll be leaving football. I feel good. My body is fine. I train well and we’ll see how I feel each year.”
With Kai Havertz at the centre for the Gunners, the attack has been poor. Meanwhile, Benzema has scored 28 goals in 46 games for Al Ittihad, and his goals would help Arsenal compete for the Premier League or the Champions League.
Following the North London derby victory, Rio Ferdinand questioned Mikel Arteta about whether Arsenal, who have lost Gabriel Jesus for the remainder of the season, are going to react in January with goals and offensive resources, which are now an issue at Emirates.
Arteta told TNT Sports: “Yes for sure because we lost two big players, Bukayo who could be out for up to three months and then Gabby who will be out for a long, long, long time. We are going to try [in this window] for sure. We are actively looking. We will try. Let’s see what we can get.”
