Manchester City dismiss speculation regarding Luis Diaz transfer links

The Colombian winger has also been linked with a move to Barcelona.

Manchester City sources have rebuffed any rumours of Luis Diaz moving to the Etihad this summer. The reports further revealed that Colombian agreed to a five-year deal with a fee of around €70 million (£60 million).

But prominent journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that City have not made any offer for the forward, and the player is set to continue at Liverpool for the next season. 

However, the speculations first were broken by Marcos Benito of large Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, who previously also reported that Chelsea were on the verge of signing Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion.

 It was one of the bizarre news stories reported by the journalist, and transfer expert Romano quickly denied any such rumours. Diaz is going to be part of new manager Arne Slot’s plans for next season.

The forward has a contract with Liverpool until 2027, but he could be sold by the Reds if an interesting offer arrives from anywhere. Barcelona have also shown interest in signing the forward, but they are yet to approach the Reds. 

Diaz’s performance last season was much talked about; his poor form led to exit speculations, but the Colombian seems to have found his groove during the pre-season and Copa America 2024. 

Life under new manager Arne Slot

Liverpool start the new season under a new manager, and maybe under Slot, Diaz will be valuable on the left flank. The forward joined the club from Porto in 2022 and replaced long-serving player Sadio Mane.

The 27-year-old became a fundamental player under manager Jurgen Klopp, who left the club at the end of last season. However, there is still some time for the transfer window to close, and the Reds have not ruled out his exit if a satisfactory offer comes. 

But one thing is certain: he is not joining Manchester City after their sources turned down any approach from the reigning Premier League champions.
