The Cityzens are set to miss many crucial players for the clash against the Saints.
Pep Guardiola provided a worrying update over Kevin De Bruyne’s continued absence from Manchester City, as it is still uncertain when the Belgian star will return.
Since being substituted out at halftime during City’s Champions League match with Inter Milan in September, the Man City star has been sidelined.
Guardiola has now acknowledged that there is ambiguity regarding a comeback timeline, despite his insistence that De Bruyne was “some time away” before City’s crushing of Sparta Prague in the middle of the week.
“No, not yet [available]. I don’t know,” Guardiola said. “Yes, of course, I prefer to have all the squad for the amount of games, but it is what it is.
“Hopefully he comes back soon, I don’t know yet. I’d like to tell you but I don’t know. I don’t know, I’m sorry.”
Additionally, Guardiola revealed that Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, and Kyle Walker will not participate against Southampton. With all four still out, Guardiola may need to make a similar list of substitutions for the Saints’ visit this weekend.

After playing against Wolverhampton Wanderers the previous week, Grealish and Doku were forced to miss the Sparta match three days later. Guardiola was annoyed by Walker’s injury when he returned from international duty earlier this week.
However, De Bruyne’s absence is starting to bother fans more. When the midfielder first suffered the injury in mid-September, it was thought to be a minor knock, but Saturday’s match will be the ninth one he will be absent as a result.
Since being substituted out of the Champions League match against Inter Milan in September due to a thigh injury, De Bruyne has not participated.
Guardiola stated that even though the player resumed training last week, he still has to be completely healthy, and as of Friday, the manager is unsure of when that will happen. As a result, City will be missing six players for the Southampton match at home.
