Manchester City set to offer Rodri new bumper contract: Report
Rodri has been City’s stalwart and driving force behind their success.
In order to keep talented midfielder Rodri at the Etihad through his prime, Manchester City are getting ready to offer him a fresh double-your-money contract.
The midfielder is one of the most important players for the Premier League champions. They plan to reward him with a wage increase. It is expected to bring his wage up to a staggering £375,000 per week.
According to The Mirror, the agreement would match his salary with that of City’s highest-paid players, including Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.
Although City have been quiet thus far during this summer transfer window, it is known that securing a new contract for their midfield pillar is a primary goal.
The Spanish midfielder’s current contract is still good for three years. But he recently acknowledged that some Real Madrid players have been trying to court him to move to the nation’s capital. Nevertheless, Rodri will not play in Manchester City’s season-opening match.
After colliding with former City defender Aymeric Laporte during Spain’s European Championship final triumph over England, the 28-year-old sustained a thigh injury. Although Pep Guardiola stated Rodri is ‘OK’, they have given him further time off this summer.
Rodri didn’t report back to the team until Wednesday after finishing his pre-season examination. ”He hasn’t trained and I haven’t seen him yet,” Guardiola said. He further added ‘I think he feels good. But we have to start training and we’ll see how he moves his body and how he feels.’
In the FA Community Shield match against Manchester United, Mateo Kovacic and youngster Nico O’Reilly controlled the midfield. Guardiola had mentioned there is “no chance” Rodri will make the trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their 2024-25 Premier League opener.
Since joining the Sky Blues in 2019, Rodri’s importance to City’s achievements in recent seasons has only increased.
