The Red Devils are also progressing to sign Manuel Ugarte.
Manchester United are preparing a substantial fee to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Xavi Simons but face competition from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, reports suggest. United’s new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy who has worked with Simons at PSV Eindhoven is working behind the scenes to tempt the forward move to United.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has given the green light for the move but PSG won’t let the Dutch forward leave easily and would demand a big fee for the 23-year-old. But United are convinced that they can match PSG’s expectation and it is rumoured that are set to make a €100 million bid for Simons.
However, United already have enough players from where Simons operates and the move could be irrational for the club.
Manchester United also working on signing Manuel Ugarte
The club’s main focus is on signing a defensive midfielder and they are also looking to sign PSG player Manuel Ugarte.
The Premier League club are advancing positively for the signing of Uruguayan and hopes to wrap up the signing as soon as possible after they completed the acquisitions of Yoro and Zirkzee.
Meanwhile, Simons will have a big decision to make on his future and if he wants to join United then there he shouldn’t take much time to gel with other players given he has played under one of the former United players Van Nistelrooy. So it won’t be tough for him to settle in at the club and should be accustomed to playing in the league.
Moreover, United could be pole position to sign Simons given PSG have demanded €100 million for the forward which Bayern and Leipzig have shown no intention to shell out that much. This will give the Premier League giants a clear path and their financial strength might see them sign him.
Simons has also been connected to Barcelona. The Catalan club are interested in the winger, who attended Barcelona’s youth system for a while. They are, however, essentially eliminated from the contest because they are unable to meet the financial obligations that any possible arrangement would entail.
This further gives United more boost in the race and he could be part of Erik ten Hag’s project for next season, as United have shown seriousness towards their signings this time and will be one of the clubs who could finally be ready to challenge for title.
