The Red Devils recently loaned out Marcus Rashford, Antony and Malacia.
According to reports, Manchester United will need to sell star academy players to raise funds for any blockbuster summer signings. After a lacklustre start to the season, the Red Devils desperately need a team overhaul. Since taking over at Old Trafford in November, new manager Ruben Amorim has been unable to turn the tide around.
The 40-year-old’s frustration with the fragmented team at his disposal has grown. His preferred 3-4-3 system, which was incredibly effective at Sporting Lisbon, is what he ideally wants to use.
However, Amorim started Kobbie Mainoo as a false nine in the 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace, exposing the squad’s shortcomings. Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, two strikers who were brought to Old Trafford for big fees, have been poor in front of goal.
According to reports, nearly half of Manchester United’s squad may be up for sale this summer. In January, Alejandro Garnacho, who was valued at approximately £70 million by United, nearly left for Napoli.
If United are to rebuild and adhere to PSR regulations, they will have to sell their academy players in the summer. In January, they were only able to bring in two players: teenager Ayden Heaven from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for a reported £25 million.
According to rumours, Mainoo is also on the transfer list, and Garnacho is one of the players that Europe’s top sides are expected to chase later this year.
“Were for sale in the winter market and will be again in the summer,” The Guardian said on Mainoo and Garnacho’s future.
”Selling one or both would mean having to find a replacement,” they continued.
Sales of academy graduates like Garnacho and Mainoo will also be considered a 100% profit for the club.
After years of significant expenditure, those agreements might be essential to United’s continued compliance with the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Following a month of speculation, Marcus Rashford departed Old Trafford on loan to Aston Villa, and Tyrell Malacia and Antony have both left on short-term contracts. It is believed that the England striker’s contract includes a £40 million buyout option.
