Manchester United planning swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee & Napoli's Victor Osimhen
Since joining Red Devils the Dutch striker has scored just one goal.
Only six months after moving from Bologna to Old Trafford, Joshua Zirkzee may leave Manchester United during the January transfer window. With just one goal in 17 games for the team, the Dutch attacker has fallen short of expectations. Victor Osimhen of Napoli is a target for the Red Devils, who are hoping to strengthen their assault in the forthcoming transfer window under new leader Ruben Amorim.
United have a plan to sign the Nigerian forward for a significantly lesser price than his present release clause, which is valued at €75 million (£63 million/$79 million), according to Il Mattino (via CN24).
By sending Zirkzee to the other side in a cash-plus-player deal, the English team hope to persuade Napoli to let Osimhen join Manchester. United are set to present their first offer which is set to be around €30 million (£25 million/$ 31 million) in cash.
This Sunday’s Premier League away match between United and Ipswich Town will mark Amorim’s maiden managerial appearance.
The main priority for Manchester United to bolster their offence meanwhile is Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian forward has excelled for Napoli and is a seasoned goal scorer. The forward is currently on loan at Galatasaray where is still scoring goals day in and day out.
The Premier League powerhouse may have an issue with Osimhen’s pay, though. The striker now earns €11 million (£9 million/$11 million) a season under his current contract with the Serie A team.
Anyhow Manchester United have the chance to change up their offence during the January transfer window. Even if Zirkzee’s tenure at Old Trafford hasn’t been great thus far, it would be a smart idea to use his potential in a trade.
Osimhen will instantly bring quality to the club’s No.9 position as the team has definitely suffered in front of goal. United have failed to score plenty of goals this season.
Amorim’s pursuit of Osimhen demonstrates the club’s intention to invest in established talent as it seeks to assemble a competitive team. It remains to be seen if this ambitious idea will be successful or not.
