Manchester United predicted lineup for Premier League 2024-25 season
The club have taken ambitious steps in the transfer market to prepare for the new season.
Manchester United are showing positive signs under the new ownership ahead of the 2024-25 season. The Red Devils have a proper footballing structure behind the manager and their acquisitions in the transfer window have been promising. Players like Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have already signed for the club.
Bayern Munich’s duo Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have also been announced as new signings. Their arrivals strengthen the squad and give manager Erik ten Hag plenty of decent options to field in the upcoming Premier League season. Players like Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and more will be key figures as the club tries to build on the FA Cup win in the previous season.
The pressure will be high and the expectations unrelenting in the forthcoming season. However, considering the options on the table, the Red Devils are well-equipped to achieve success. As the new season approaches, here is a look at how Manchester United can lineup in the 2024-25 season:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper – Andre Onana
Andre Onana is the favourite to start as the first-choice goalkeeper. His comfortability with the ball in his feet is a quality adored by Erik ten Hag. The manager trusts the custodian to help build up moves from the back with his impressive distribution.
Right-Back – Diogo Dalot
Diogo Dalot is likely to retain his place as the starting full-back on the right flank. It was a good last season for the Portuguese international as the members of the first team voted him as the Players’ Player of the Year for the 2023-24 term.
Centre-Back – Matthijs De Ligt
Matthijs De Ligt is a statement signing who brings a lot of quality to the defensive department. He has previously played under Erik ten Hag at AFC Ajax, a successful partnership. The Dutch international is likely to start in the heart of defence.
Centre-Back – Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez is likely to partner Matthijs De Ligt in the centre-back role. The Argentine international is coming into the 2024-25 season on the back of winning the Copa America with his country. His fighting spirit and ball distribution make him a preferred option over Harry Maguire in defence.
Left-Back – Luke Shaw/Noussair Mazraoui
Luke Shaw is one the finest full-backs in the Premier League. However, his availability is a serious concern. The English international has picked up a calf injury ahead of the season, keeping him out of action until September. Erik ten Hag might have to field new arrival Noussair Mazraoui in the lineup as a makeshift left-back with both Shaw and Tyrell Malacia working to regain full fitness. Talks of a new left-back signing before the end of the transfer window are also doing the rounds.
Central Defensive Midfielder – Casemiro
Casemiro struggled towards the end of the previous season. But his performances have been decent in the pre-season and the 2024 Community Shield fixture against Manchester City. His experience will be crucial for the Red Devils in the heart of the midfield.
Central Defensive Midfielder – Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo is undroppable after his stellar 2023-24 season and impressive performances for England at the UEFA Euros. The young English international is highly rated and has all the qualities of a world-class midfielder. He is going to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Right-Wing – Amad Diallo
Amad Diallo finished the 2023-24 season on a high, showed brilliant form in pre-season and was termed by Erik ten Hag as one who could have a huge year at Manchester United in the upcoming 2024-25 season. There will be healthy competition for the starting spot on the right wing between him and Alejandro Garnacho.
Central Attacking Midfielder – Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes is the captain of the first team and the driving force behind Manchester United’s attacks. He is a creative machine who loves to provide his teammates with goalscoring opportunities. The Portuguese international is assured to start in the No.10 role.
Left-Wing – Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford has struggled for consistency lately but he is likely to retain his spot on the left wing. His quality and experience are going to be key factors in him starting over Alejandro Garnacho, who can play on either wing. The fans are expecting Rashford to have an impactful 2024-25 season.
Striker – Joshua Zirkzee
While one would expect Rasmun Hojlund to be the starter in the No.9 role, his pre-season injury could keep him from playing in the initial part of the 2024-25 season. Thankfully, Manchester United signed Joshua Zirkzee who comes with a lot of promise. The striker scored 11 goals for Bologna in the Serie A last term and would like to positively start his career in the Premier League.
