Manchester United new signing Manuel Ugarte handed Jadon Sancho's old shirt no 25

The Uruguayan midfielder has taken Jadon Sancho’s shirt No.
Manchester United’s recent signing Manuel Ugarte is set to wear the number 25 at the club. Previously this number was worn by Jadon Sancho.
Arriving from Paris Saint-Germain on the day of the transfer deadline, the summer addition has never before worn this particular number on any club uniform. Most recently, he wore the No. 4 in the French capital.
The 23-year-old had previously worn the numbers: 8, 20 and 26 for his former teams. In addition, he has won the numbers 14 for PSG and 15 for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
Jadon Sancho, who just completed a loan move to another Premier League team, Chelsea, left the number 25 vacant. Ugarte however has previously worn No. 25 for the Uruguay national team.
Before Ugarte, the Reds have had players like Danny Simpson, Quinton Fortune, Jordi Cruyff and former United leader Antonio Valencia wear the number 25 shirt.
Until 2023, Ugarte played two seasons for Sporting. There he established himself as one of the continent’s brightest defensive midfielders. The 23-year-old had come from another top-tier Portuguese team, Famalicao, to join the Lisbon giants.
Ugarte chose to wear the No. 8 shirt throughout his two years there. This number is currently held by United captain Bruno Fernandes in Manchester. Going back to the beginning, he sported the numbers 20 and 26, the latter of which is available at Old Trafford, for his first four years as a professional football player with Uruguayan side Fenix.
Regarding his international career, Ugarte dons No. 5 at the back, which is Harry Maguire’s No. at Old Trafford. Previously, he wore shirt numbers 20, 6, 25, 15 and 17. The Red Devils have all those numbers taken by the players. However, the exit of Jadon Sancho on loan to Chelsea has left the 25 vacant. Ultimately this number was handed to the defensive midfielder.
Normally designated for goalkeepers, No. 13 is also available at United along with No. 19, after Raphael Varane left the club this summer.
