Manchester United target Tottenham Hotspur star heading into next summer

The South Korean international is nearing the end of his contract at Spurs.
Reports suggest Manchester United might have to offload some players in order to make significant purchases in next summer window. They are preparing to make major changes to their squad and they see Tottenham star Son Heung-min as a “viable target.”
Man Utd’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night marked the Red Devils’ first defeat in four games under Ruben Amorim.
As his Manchester United players adjust to his 3-4-3 formation and his philosophy, the game did make it clear that Amorim will need time and assistance in the transfer market to get them to play his brand of football.
Tottenham skipper Son is a player who has been linked with a move to Amorim’s. The former Sporting CP boss requires players that fit his high-energy style and shape better than some of the players in the present roster. They feel the South Korean international could be a great fit for them despite his age.
According to reports, Son is now regarded as a “viable target” by Manchester United, whose contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expires in the summer of 2025.
United supporters would undoubtedly be happy to see the South Korean, who has 166 goals for Tottenham, play for them. Man Utd have often come under fire for their efforts to sign older players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, and Cristiano Ronaldo. But, they still seem willing to take the risk with Son.
Meanwhile, in order to make space for major acquisitions that will enhance Amorim’s team, Manchester United may need to sell academy products in the upcoming transfer windows as they will help balance the books.
Spurs have the option to extend his contract for an additional season, according to a report by the Telegraph back in November. Although the club has control over the clause, Son must be notified that the option has been used.
It will be interesting to see if United actually go ahead and sign a 32-year-old when they have been focusing on signing young stars of late.
Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Sekou Kone all arrived during the summer transfer window with an average age of 22, which could be a sign of United’s future hiring practices.
