Mexico grinds out 1-0 victory against Jamaica in Copa America Group B clash

Arteaga scored a stunning goal from 20 yards out to give them a crucial 1-0 lead.
The second match of Group B took place at NRG Stadium in Houston, where Mexico faced Jamaica following Venezuela’s 2-1 comeback win that put them at the top of the table.
El Tri started brightly, dominating possession and creating several chances to test goalkeeper Jahmali Waite. However, their momentum suffered a setback when captain Edson Alvarez pulled up with a hamstring injury around the midway point of the first half, despite no prior contact.
The situation worsened for Mexico when Alvarez had to be substituted in the 30th minute for midfielder Luis Romo. Despite this setback, Mexico maintained a solid defensive structure, and both teams failed to score in the first half.
Jamaica began the second half more aggressively, registering a shot on goal within the first minute. Their efforts seemed to pay off when Michail Antonio scored with a free header at the back post, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review, leaving the score 0-0.

Mexico responded with chances of their own, including a powerful shot from Santi Gimenez that was well saved by Waite.
In the 69th minute, Mexico broke the deadlock when left-back Gerardo Arteaga scored a stunning goal from 20 yards out to give them a crucial 1-0 lead.
Jamaica pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Mexico’s strong defensive setup prevented any clear-cut chances. Despite Jamaica’s efforts, Jaime Lozano’s Mexico held on for a narrow 1-0 victory, securing all three points to start their Copa America campaign
