Mexico are one of the co-hosts of the World Cup.
After the Federation’s Sporting Directorate announced the preliminary 55-man roster submitted to FIFA on Tuesday, the Mexican National Team that will compete in the 2026 World Cup is finally beginning to take shape.
Now this squad will need to be cut down to 26 players ahead of the tournament.
Head coach Javier Aguirre chose this team, which serves as the initial screening before the tournament’s final roster is revealed.
World Cup veterans, players from Europe, Liga MX stars, and a few names that likely caused viewers to double-check the image to make sure it wasn’t a hoax are all included in the list.
Mexico’s final 26-man squad will be revealed on June 1, only a few days before El Tri’s opening World Cup match against South Africa on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca.
Except for the absence of Hirving Lozano, who does not currently have a club, and Rodrigo Huescas, who did not heal in time from an ACL tear, the preliminary roster did not include many significant surprises. While Mexico managed to find space for 55 names, both were left to watch from home.
