Mexico vs Ecuador: All-time head-to-head record | Copa America 2024
Even a draw here will mean an exit for El Tri.
Jaime Lozano’s Mexico is in danger of being eliminated after losing on matchday two. To stay in the Copa America 2024 past this weekend, they must win.
If El Tri even draws this game, it will be their third consecutive appearance in the competition where they have been eliminated in the group stage.
Matchday two saw Ecuador make amends after losing their opening game against Venezuela. A 3-1 win over Jamaica helped them put three points on Group B standings.
They are in a good position to advance to the quarterfinals for the third time in their last four tournament appearances. Félix Sánchez’s men come into this Mexico match with three victories in their previous four games in all competitions.
Sanchez’s team might advance to the tournament’s knockout stage on multiple occasions for the first time in a century. Since 2011, when they lost 4–2 against Brazil, Ecuador have not lost their last Copa America group game. In both 2019 and 2021, Ecuador overcame a goal deficit to secure a 1–1 draw against Brazil on the final matchday.
