The Spanish manager has a year remaining at the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta has finally put an end to speculations surrounding his contract with Arsenal and revealed that the manager will start talks with the club over an extension of his deal after the end of the transfer window.

The former Gunners’ player said due to the busy transfer window he has not been able to sit down with the board to discuss his future and has finally revealed the time frame of the negotiations that will start as his contract with north Londoners will expire after the end of the season.

The window closes on September 1 and Arteta said: “The focus has been on the transfer window. We are on it and we will take care of that in the right moment. I see today and tomorrow. That is the reality as managers that we live with that urgency.”

Arteta added: “They scored and we didn’t – it’s very simple. We have to do better. They are a really good side, really well coached.”

Arsenal started their new season with a 2-0 win against Wolves and they will be back in action once again when they host Aston Villa on Saturday and will hope to avenge their defeat against the Villains who won the last two matches in the previous season.

Meanwhile, in the transfer window, the club bought Riccardo Calafiori and now are on the verge of signing Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino in a ÂŁ33m deal while Eddie Nketiah is poised to leave this month.

Arteta took over the helm of Arsenal in 2019 and since then he has changed the outcomes of the club turning them into Premier League contenders, in the previous two seasons the club has come close to winning the title but finished second.

Arteta has assembled a team that should have enough quality to now finally dethrone Manchester City in the Premier League title race and ultimately win the championship as in the past two terms they missed the title with fine margins.

Once again, Arsenal will be a major headache for Pep Guardiola’s team, which has monopolised the league and captured four straight titles.
