The Egyptian seems set to leave as a free agent after the end of the season.
Since talks over an extension have stagnated, Mohamed Salah, an attacker for Liverpool, has reiterated that he is getting ready for this to be his final season with the Merseyside club.
Along with teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah’s current contract is slated to expire at the end of the current campaign.
The 32-year-old Egypt international is so far enjoying a spectacular individual season, helping Liverpool gain a six-point lead at the summit of the league with 17 goals and 13 assists.
Salah has now stated that he and the club are still far from reaching an agreement, after months of efforts to negotiate a new contract with his camp.
Salah responded to a question about whether he thinks this will be his final season at Liverpool by telling Sky Sports:
“So far? Yes. Into the last six months, there is no progress there, we’re far away from any progress, so we just need to wait and see.”
“The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was concerned or stressed about the contract? Or do you just want to say I had an unbelievable season? That’s what is in my head.
“If I ever feel distraction, I just remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. That’s what I want to do.”
This week, sources have revealed that Liverpool rejected a Real Madrid bid for the England international, further complicating Alexander-Arnold’s future.
Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander Arnold all contributed significantly to Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League victory and their 2019–20 Premier League championship campaign. During their tenure at Anfield, they additionally won the UEFA Super Cup (2019), the Club World Cup (2019), the FA Cup (2022), and the Carabao Cup (2022, 2024).
