Salah boasts a poor record in big finals for both club and country.
Mohamed Salah has undoubtedly played a significant role in Liverpool’s recent success. It is impossible to overestimate the contribution the Egyptian made to the Reds winning the Champions League and the Premier League. He is the team’s all-time top goalscorer in the league. He’s one of their greatest-ever players.
Having said that, he has done a fantastic job leading his teams to major cup finals over the years, but his record as a player in those games isn’t the best.
In fact, a record of Salah’s cup final performances was posted online after Liverpool lost to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) final, which gave the Magpies their first major prize in 70 years. For Liverpool supporters, this is a concerning read.
Salah has had several appearances in finals throughout his career, and according to information revealed on Reddit and released by Transfermarkt, it hasn’t been pleasant.
He has been in 11 finals since 2017 when he played for Egypt in the African Cup of Nations final. In those games, he has only managed to score two goals. He has never netted from open play in a match like that, and both of them came from the penalty spot.
This season the forward has been enjoying an excellent run of form with the Reds but their elimination from the Champions League and the League Cup final defeat has dented the forward’s hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or.
However, Salah can still end the season with major silverware. The Reds are currently leading the Premier League table. If they continue to win the remainder of the season’s games the former AS Roma star will be able to lift his second league title with the Reds, which could give some solace to the player.
