The Brazilian is linked with a transfer to Inter Miami.
According to ESPN, Brazil star and Al Hilal forward Neymar is in initial negotiations for a possible transfer with three Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, including Chicago Fire FC.
Inter Miami aren’t actively competing for Neymar, according to the source, and new Herons’ manager Javier Mascherano also stated that, given the current MLS regulations, it would be “impossible” to sign the Brazilian to the Miami club.
Meanwhile, other reports have downplayed the likelihood that Neymar will join MLS. However, the Brazilian has earlier commented on playing with his former teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami, where he said: “Obviously, playing again with (Lionel) Messi and (Luis) Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends. We still speak to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio.”
After Al Hilal spent $97.6 million to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, Neymar, 32, has had a challenging time there. Shortly after joining Al Hilal, he was on international duty when he tore his ACL in his left knee.
Although Neymar made a comeback to the field in October 2024, a hamstring injury has prevented him from contributing further this season. He has only played in seven league and cup games overall and scored one goal against Nassaji Mazandaran in the AFC Champions League group stage. Al Hilal won the Saudi Pro League title the previous season without Neymar.
Neymar’s contract expires in June 2025
Since the former Barcelona player’s contract expires in June 2025, he is free to start negotiating a new deal with other teams. Because of his accomplishments with Messi and Suarez while playing for Barcelona from 2013 to 2017, Neymar is still one of the most well-known figures in the sport.
He won three Copa del Reys, two LaLiga titles, and a UEFA Champions League title while he was with the Catalan giants. After his big money move to PSG in 2017, he won two League Cups, three French Cups, and five Ligue 1 championships.
Neymar started his football career with Santos in 2009, and he helped them win the Copa Libertadores in 2011 by scoring in the second leg of their 2-1 victory over Peñarol.
Neymar has made 128 appearances for Brazil at the international level, tallying 79 goals. He played for Brazil, which hosted the 2016 Summer Olympics and took home the gold medal, although he has also been sidelined frequently in recent years because of injuries.
