Neymar made a return to action from a previous injury, only for him to pick up another ailment.

The magnitude of Neymar’s hamstring injury has been confirmed. The Santos star will likely miss a long period of action with the recent injury.

In the most recent injury setback, for a player who has had trouble staying healthy for a while, Neymar hobbled out of Thursday’s 2-0 victory over Atletico Mineiro. According to ESPN, the team anticipates that he will be sidelined for four to six weeks.

After a string of problems with Paris Saint-Germain, he left the club to join Al-Hilal. Neymar suffered an ACL injury in October 2023 while competing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. His contract with the Saudi club was terminated due to another hamstring injury he sustained last year. However, ESPN reports that this latest issue does not impact the same muscle.

An evening of celebration was cut short when the injury happened during the Brazilian’s 100th game for Santos. After 34 minutes, Neymar was substituted off while wearing a shirt with 100 on his back instead of 10.

The Brazilian Serie A season is just getting started, and Santos want to return to the top level in their first season following a shocking relegation in 2023. With four points from their opening four games, Neymar will be hoping for a quick comeback so he can play and help his side for most of the season.

The former Barcelona player, who hasn’t played for Brazil since October 2023 due to a knee ailment, was called up to the national squad for World Cup qualifiers in March after a brief resurgence in form. But he was later pulled out because of another muscle issue. Endrick, a young forward for Real Madrid, took the place of the 33-year-old.

Since rejoining Santos from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Neymar has made eight appearances and scored three goals.

“He will be reevaluated periodically for monitoring and new treatment definitions,” Santos said in the statement. “It was known that these complications could occur due to the time of inactivity.”
