Porro has become one of the underrated full-backs in the English top-flight division.

When Ange Postcoglou was hired, there were questions regarding Pedro Porro’s ability to play as an inverted full-back because the Spaniard was touted as the ideal flying wing-back for Antonio Conte’s project.

Porro was touted as the answer to Tottenham’s issues and the ideal candidate for the right wing-back position in Conte’s system. But fans had doubts whether the wing-back would work in Ange Postcoglou’s system.

The 25-year-old appeared at ease in Postecoglou’s inverted full-back position right away. In recent years, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing this position throughout Europe, but Spurs take a unique approach by having both full-backs invert at the same time. For instance, only one full-back will switch to midfield for Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

But Porro has been brilliant for Spurs under Postecoglou, he has transformed the right side of the north Londoners who look more threatening in the attack. Credits should be given to Porro and now maybe it’s time for him to be considered as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.

Why Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the Premier League?

Pedro Porro’s passing, vision, and tackling skills are among the many reasons he is regarded as one of the world’s top right-backs. Porro has adjusted well to playing for Ange Postecoglou and Antonio Conte, among other managers.

Porro has set up more goals than some of the top attackers in the Premier League, and he excels at passing. Tottenham Hotspur fans no longer remember Kyle Walker, who departed to join Manchester City, thanks to Porro.

Since joining Tottenham from Sporting CP, Pedro Porro has been a major offensive danger. In 50 Premier League games, he has seven goals and 10 assists to his credit.

Porro deserves praise for his work rate as well. He played a big part in Tottenham’s press and finished in the top 18 per cent of full-backs in the league last season with 5.8 recoveries per 90. However, his transitional defence has been one of his weak points, particularly when it comes to opponents’ overlaps and underlaps.

Under Ange Postecoglou, he is an inverted full-back who can attack whenever he wants, and his performance has only gotten better. In terms of successful passes into the penalty area per ninety minutes, he presently leads all Premier League right-backs (1.44).

Along with Kieran Trippier, he was one of just two defenders to directly contribute to ten or more goals at the conclusion of the 2023–24 league season. In a single Premier League season, he ended up becoming the first Tottenham defender to record seven assists.

Well, these statistics should be enough to confirm that Porro is now turning up to be one of the best right-backs in the league.
