The Spanish manager has made up his mind for a ‘very’ long break from football.
Pep Guardiola has hinted at taking a break from football for as long as 15 years once he leaves Manchester City. The Spanish head coach, currently enjoying his stint with City, has won 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.
The former FC Barcelona manager’s contract with the club expires in 2027, but he has yet to confirm when he will leave City. However, he has already decided to take a break from football in the near future.
Guardiola reveals how long his break will be from football
Speaking to GQ Spain, he reiterated that he has made up his mind regarding his hiatus from football and said:
“I know that after this stage with City I’m going to stop, that’s for sure. It’s decided, more than decided. I don’t know how long I’ll stop for, a year, two years, three years, five, ten, fifteen, I don’t know. But I will leave after this spell with City because I need to stop and focus on myself, on my body.”
Pep Guardiola, who penned a new deal with City, will hope to win more silverware next season after going trophyless the previous campaign. The 54-year-old led City to four league titles in a row, a feat that will be very hard for future managers to ever achieve in the English top-flight.
Pep Guardiola closes Barca chapter, says it’s over!

Moreover, Guardiola has also shut the door on the possibility of becoming Barca manager again. Guardiola left the club in 2012, after winning two Champions League titles and has often been linked with a return.
However, his recent comments indicate that he might never manage the club again. He said:
“It’s over. It’s over forever. It was very beautiful, but it’s over now.”
Guardiola is one of the decorated managers in football history, having won every trophy imaginable. He hopes to add more silverware to his collection before officially exiting from City and taking time off from the sport, however long he wishes to.
Will Guardiola manage Barcelona again?
“It’s over. It’s over forever. It was very beautiful, but it’s over now,” said Guardiola to answer it.
What are Pep Guardiola’s future plans?
He is seriously considering taking a long break from football and work to take care of his health and life after the City job.
When will Guardiola leave City?
His current City contract is till the summer of 2027. However, has not yet decided when he will leave.
