Chile and Peru are in the same group as defending champions Argentina.

Peru, who are at present on a five-match winning streak in all competitions, will start their Copa America 2024 campaign in strong shape.

The Peruvian Football Federation hired veteran coach Jorge Fossati at the end of 2023. He has since turned this team’s fortunes around.

The Peruvians had a seven-game winless streak in all competitions prior to the 71-year-old taking over, with six of those games ending in losses.

With just two points from six games, they are at present at the bottom of the CONMEBOL league, which has hampered their hopes of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Since 2020, La Roja have only lost once when they have scored the first goal; that one loss came earlier this year against France.

Chile will cherish their memories of winning the trophy at the last Copa America which was held in the US, even if they haven’t qualified for a World Cup since 2014.

La Roja defeated Peru 2-0 in their previous match from October of last year. However, the last time these teams faced each other at the Copa America, Los Incas defeated Chile 3-0 in the semifinals, ending Chile’s chances of winning a third straight championship.
