The right-back is nearing a move to Real Madrid in the summer.

According to The Athletic, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool is nearing a summer transfer to Real Madrid since his contract is about to end.

Three players have served as the focal points of Liverpool’s success over the past ten years. But one of them, Alexander-Arnold, seems to be heading towards the end of his Liverpool career as he now nears a move to Spanish club Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Given that he is only 26 years old, his departure leaves a significant void in the squad. The Reds will certainly look to find his replacement in the summer window. With this, we take a look at three players who can be successors of Alexander-Arnold.

3. Ola Aina

One of Nottingham Forest’s breakout players this season as they aim to qualify for the Champions League is Ola Aina. Aina, who is 28 years old, would be the ideal candidate to enter and start several seasons while Conor Bradley develops and gains experience.

At the moment, he has started every Premier League match for Nuno Espirito Santo and has a league-best 12 clean sheets. Additionally, Forest’s defense has the fourth-best defensive performance in the league, with just 35 goals allowed this season. He has played a big part in keeping that record intact.

2. Conor Bradley

Conor Bradley is at the peak of the list if Liverpool choose to depend on their own talent instead of making a purchase.

The 21-year-old made his Carabao Cup debut in 2021–22 under manager Jurgen Klopp. Bradley made his first appearance with the first squad in 2024, making his Premier League debut in January following a season on loan at Bolton Wanderers. He also started in the 2024 Carabao Cup final, the last trophy Klopp claimed at the club before leaving.

When healthy, Bradley has shown promise under Arne Slot this season. The player could be selected as Alexander-Arnold’s long-term replacement. Given the possibility of a left-back role as well, it wouldn’t be shocking if Liverpool chose to sign a rotational player instead of sticking with Bradley as the starting player for the upcoming campaign.

Bradley should also be considered in Liverpool’s long-term plans, even if they decide to acquire a top starter.

1. Jeremie Frimpong

The well-known and intriguing choice is the Dutch player who plays for Bayer Leverkusen. Frimpong, who spent his time in the Bundesliga primarily as a wide midfielder and as a left-wing back, was instrumental in Xabi Alonso’s first, unbeatable season.

He would instantly benefit from the experience that comes from playing with players like Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo from their time with the Netherlands national team. Frimpong would probably have the highest transfer cost on the list because his current contract expires in 2028.

He would instantly fill the vacuum left by Alexander-Arnold’s departure with his lightning-fast pace and attacking nous. He has contributed 14 goals in 36 Bundesliga and Champions League appearances so far this season.
