Top eight players with most goals & assists in 2024

Three Premier League players have their names on the list.

Now that 2024 is over, it’s time to take stock of the year’s highs and lows, including goals & assists across the top five leagues in Europe while eagerly anticipating and setting new goals for the coming year. Fans and commentators still want to participate in this ritual even though the football season doesn’t correspond with the calendar year.

The list provides an intriguing look at the top players of 2024, even though no player comes close to surpassing Lionel Messi’s amazing record of 91 goals in a calendar year, which was achieved in 2012. We take a look at eight players who finished 2024 with the most goals and assists overall across all competitions.

8. Erling Haaland: 40

Erling Haaland could have been in the top five on this list but the striker is last. It indicates how drastically his form has plummeted. The striker managed 40 goals involvement in 2024.

As his team’s performance has declined, so too has Erling Haaland’s. As of right now, Manchester City have only won one of their last thirteen games. Haaland’s dismal run in front of goal has been exacerbated by that run and City’s lack of inventiveness. Additionally, Haaland’s wastefulness in front of goal hasn’t helped either.

7: Cole Palmer: 44

Since leaving Manchester City, Cole Palmer has been a sensation for Chelsea. Palmer has greater direct goal involvement for Chelsea this season than any other player. He finished 2024 with 44 (28 goals, 16 assists) goal involvements across all competitions.

The former Man City player has led the Blues in statistics this season as well, continuing to score goals for them and hoping to maintain his form in front of goal in 2025.

6: Robert Lewandowski: 46

The Polish attacker for FC Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski, has been outstanding this season, maintaining his lead as LaLiga’s top scorer.

With 46 goals contribution throughout all competitions in 2024, Lewandowski is currently the second-highest scorer in Europe’s top five leagues (2024-25 season), far ahead of Erling Haaland. Lewandowski joined Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only other players to reach 100 goals in the UEFA Champions League in 2024.

5. Vinicius Junior: 46

Vinicius has always been at the centre of Real Madrid’s success, whose brilliant wing play propelled Los Blancos to victory on all fronts. Surprisingly, over the entire year, they only lost one club game with the 24-year-old playing.

In 2023–2024, Vinicius and Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, and the Supercopa de Espana. The Brazilian was on fire that season with his goal-scoring and assist-giving skills, and the squad won every game in all of those competitions when he played. In 2024, the Brazilian was involved in 46 goals.

4. Jonathan David: 47

For the club, Jonathan David has been making an impression in the 2024–2025 season. Compared to prior seasons, David’s goal-scoring rate has improved, averaging one goal every 112 minutes. David has contributed 47 goals to Lille OSC.

His numerous goals include a goal against Juventus, a brace against Atletico Madrid, and a penalty against Real Madrid. Top European clubs, including FC Barcelona, have expressed interest in David as a result of his outstanding performances. When his Lille contract expires in the summer, he should be free to sign with any team this January.

3. Kylian Mbappe: 49

Kylian Mbappe might have endured a dismal start to his career at Real Madrid but the forward still dominated the scoring charts of most goals and assists in 2024 as he is third on the list. The former AS Monaco player completed his dream move to Madrid in the summer of 2024 and is now settling at the club as he seems set to become the face of the Los Blancos.

Mbappe ended the year with a good goal involvement and will hope to continue his upward scoring trajectory this year and lead the Spanish capital side to the league title and Champions League.

2. Harry Kane: 50

He won his first European Golden Shoe after scoring 36 goals in the Bundesliga in his rookie campaign. This season, Harry Kane has been in outstanding form and has continuously produced excellent performances.

Harry Kane smashed yet another Bundesliga record as he achieved his eighth hat-trick since joining Bayern Munich at the beginning of the previous season. Not only he has been in terrific form for the German club, but Kane is also second highest in goal involvements in 2024.

1. Mohamed Salah: 52

In 2024, Mohamed Salah reached a whole new level, and the headline numbers are on par with those of Lionel Messi in his Barca days. He has more goals (29) and assists (23) overall in all competitions in 2024 than anybody else in the best five leagues in Europe.

With an eye toward the 2024–2025 league title, Salah’s 1.7 Premier League goal involvements per 90 is by far his greatest performance while wearing a Liverpool shirt. In fact, he has already surpassed his total for the entire previous season at about halfway through.
