Five players who might leave Manchester United this summer
Manchester United have been busy on the market this summer.
Manchester United have been one of the most proactive clubs on the transfer market this summer. They have already completed two big signings so far: Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for €42.5 million and Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille for €62 million.
United are not done yet this summer as they are looking for further recruitment, especially in both defensive and midfield positions. However, to sign these potential targets, the club also needs to sell some players in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules of the Premier League.
With that said, here are the five players who might leave Manchester United this summer:
5. Casemiro
One of the firm favourites to see the Manchester United exit door this summer is the experienced defensive midfielder Casemiro. After an incredible debut season at United, where he was the standout player for the club, the Brazilian midfielder had a disastrous following campaign.
In 32 appearances last season, Casemiro proved to be a liability on the pitch, with his poor in-game decision-making, unforced errors and overall mediocre performances massively hindering the team. With top clubs from the Saudi Pro League interested in signing the 32-year-old midfielder this summer, the United hierarchy will look to get rid of his massive contract and make some space on the wage bill.
4. Harry Maguire
Despite his resurgence last season, which made him a mainstay in the United backline, Harry Maguire is expected to leave the club in the event of a good proposal. The 31-year-old defender made 31 appearances across all competitions and was a composed figure and leader in defence.
However, the Red Devils have already completed the signing of talented centre-back Leny Yoro and are open to signing another defender in this transfer window. Due to his massive wages and the new Manchester United sporting structure, we might see Maguire leaving before the likes of Victor Lindelof, also helping to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules of the Premier League further.
3. Scott McTominay
After spending his entire playing career at Manchester United so far, Scott McTominay could finally be on the move this summer, with the club in the middle of a massive rebuild. Despite mediocre performances season after season, McTominay has managed to stay at the club, making a staggering 252 first-team appearances in the process.
The last campaign was no different, as the 27-year-old midfielder was a regular starter for his side despite continuous lacklustre displays, resulting in the fans turning against him on multiple occasions. With the revamped sporting structure at United being ruthless and practical in approach, an exit for the Scotsman could well and truly be a possibility.
2. Antony
In his two full seasons at Carrington, Antony has failed to settle in completely at Old Trafford. During this period, the Brazilian winger has only managed to register 11 goals and five assists.
The €95 million price tag has piled the pressure on Antony, who has been unable to deliver a consistent string of good performances in the United shirt. With the club not actively looking to sell the 24-year-old forward this summer, the possibility of a move away is still very much on the cards, as they hope to earn some return value from their hefty investment.
1. Jadon Sancho
Despite his reconciliation with manager Erik ten Hag heading into the new season, United will not mind parting ways with Jadon Sancho this summer if a concrete offer is put on the table.
After falling out with the manager last year, Sancho enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season. The initial plan was to offload the 24-year-old winger, with clubs such as Juventus and Dortmund interested in signing the player. The United board will still be keeping a close eye on potential offers that would be favourable for all the parties involved.
Ever since his €85 million switch to Manchester United in 2021, Jadon Sancho has failed to cement himself as a regular first-team player. During this period, he has registered underwhelming figures of just 12 goals and six assists.
